Silver shoe sign

LS 2000.143

Date : C. 1800 | Medium : Wrought iron, embossed, multi-coloured, assembled with half-lapped joints and riveted.

Nantes

The stem of this sign is dominated by a liberal interpretation of the Greek fret decorative theme. The straight lines, in the square section, contrast with arabesques of the round bars that spell out the monogram and the airy scrolled frame light that surrounds the elegant shoe contained in the sign.
This shoe, long exposed to the weather, was subsequently placed on a stand and surrounded by this framework.
