Pistol-cum-knife lighter

LS 1999.0.183

Date : XVIIIth century

Italy

This knife has multiple functions: the blade is hardened i.e. its back is hard enough (steeled) to support the striking of a flint stone, whose spark ignites a piece of tinder stored in a cavity of the object. In addition, the object is beautifully inlaid with flowerets in a golden metal, making this a drawing room piece.
