Door lock with Montmorency alerions

LS 1693

Ecouen

Framed by triple beading, an interlacing network houses a series of small alerions (eaglets without beaks or claws), emblems of the Duke of Montmorency. The visible button on the front enabled the lock to be closed without a key. Another button originally fitted to the back of the piece enabled the chamber to be closed from the other side.
