Door knocker with armed bear

LS 2167

Date : XVIIIth century | Medium : wrought iron

Swiss or Germany

The door knocker was named after the bear of Bern, although the bear of Bern is not armed. It is, in any case, finely wrought and copiously decorated with leaves. The painstaking chisel work is reminiscent of the art of the silversmith. All the accessories were fashioned separately (gun, sword, belt, foliage).
