This large coffee grinder is one of the best examples of this industry at which the city of Saint-Etienne excelled. The art of the craftsman consisted in the interplay of two materials, gilded bronze and iron, chiselling the drawer with a trophy motif, and decorating the conical funnel with mouldings and festooning with bevelled panels. In addition, the cover is adorned with a small lion's muzzle, which pivots to enable the crank to be put in place.
