The date 1524 featured on this lock is discreetly engraved on the reverse of the bolt catch. This is an early date for this type of temple-design lock, marked by the Renaissance style with its penchant for Antiquity. At the time the medieval repertoire of locks was still in vogue. To our knowledge, this is the first known dated lock.
