Ceremonial key celebrating the marriage of Louis of France

LS 554

Date : 1747 | Medium : wrought and carved iron

France

Keys were made to commemorate certain events: this example celebrates the union of the royal pair in 1747. The arms of the prince and princess are each present on one side of the key: this face depicts the arms of Marie-Josephe de Saxe, in what may be seen as an allegory of power.
